So I listened for the third time, and found this interview my favorite this year, with Naomi Klein on energy 2nd fav. Wendell Berry, ecology visionary, poet, author, Bill McKibben says “He’s a prophet of responsibility”. Take a listen/watch at http://billmoyers.com/?gclid=COi78tbVjbsCFYiSfgodbF8AUQ Vandana Shiva’s in on it, too. Previously aired October 4th.

“People who own the world outright for profit will have to be stopped, by influence, by power, by us,” said Berry. “Well I have grown more radical the older I’ve become,” he said. “I don’t mean bomb um, and I didn’t mean stop em by violence, but they do have to be stopped.”

More from Bill Moyer’s and Company:

Wendell Berry, a quiet and humble man, has become an outspoken advocate for revolution. He urges immediate action as he mourns how America has turned its back on the land and rejected Jeffersonian principles of respect for the environment and sustainable agriculture. Berry warns, “People who own the world outright for profit will have to be stopped; by influence, by power, by us.” In a rare television interview, this visionary, author, and farmer discusses a sensible, but no-compromise plan to save the Earth.

He’s nearly 90, but he likes “good company,” so he’s out protesting for the health of the land in Kentucky. “In our society, people with money are more powerful … and count more as citizens than those without money.” So he sat in at his Governor’s office “altogether one of the loveliest weekends I’ve spent in my life”. People brought food, bedding, whatever they needed. Trying to have a dialogue with the Governor of the State of Kentucky regarding clean water in the state, “being poisoned by the output of those strip mines.”

So go take a listen and watch these heroes of responsibility – and join them; they need us; the work ahead needs us.
