My sister, Meg Madden, organized a rally with her Music in the Schools Today (MUST) in SF for funding for the Arts in California last night. I said I’d go, of course. Thought I would get cold at a rally outside San Francisco City Hall but the Rally was inside on the Rotunda steps and a newlyl refurbished and lovely side room – and it was terrific fun! …

Just got a MacBook Pro (no; you CAN’T follow me around till I’m sleepy and take it home with you), transferring the best of my files from a humungous pc to a 17″ silver box weighing just under 6lbs and leaving behind the rest of my files/mind-flakes like yesterday’s newspapers-

Just blew in from the Windy City, town where I was born and
now returned for a family reunion. The Windy City is, as the song from Calamity
Jane goes, mighty pretty, but ’tis true – they ain’t got what we got. We’re
intimate and peaceful; they’re HUGE and DANGEROUS. Still, there are some things our little city could learn from
